By May, residents of Gayzor village in Samdrup Jongkhar’s Dewathang Gewog will no longer have to worry about meeting their daily drinking water needs. A new water supply line is currently being constructed from the Chhenari and Khorpam stream to the village. The village’s current water source at Lemsorong is shared by other institutions in the area, resulting in water shortages.

The majority of households in Gyezor village utilize water storage drums to store water.

The current water source at Lemsorong, which was built in 2007 to cater to 26 households in Gayzor, is no longer adequate for the needs of the village, which now has over 50 households.

Additionally, other institutions in the area, such as the hospital, army, and residents of Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde, also rely on the same water source, leading to a shortage of water.

The new water source and supply line from Chhenari and Khorpam streams is under construction and is expected to be completed in a month.

The villagers have constructed a storage tank at the source and a distribution tank, with pipeline fitting works still in progress.

“Water source at Chheneri is located below the Jigme Namgyel Engineering College and the gewog administration is supplying materials. We the villagers are executing the work. Now, by using two water sources, we think that our water problem will be solved,” said Karma, a resident of Gayzor.

“Without water, we face many problems. If all the villagers come together to work to supply water from two sources, I think our problem will be solved. We have only these two water sources,” said Kelzang, another resident.

“Population here is increasing and water from Lemsorong source is not enough. By using two water sources Lemsorong and Chhenari, I think water will be enough. Without water is difficult. We are not able to maintain hygiene,” said Dema Gyelpo, a resident.

The Dewathang Gewog administration is providing Nu 500,000 for the water supply project. The project is expected to complete by May.
