Police arrests record number of people last year

The Royal Bhutan Police arrested almost 4500 people last year. According to the RBP’s statistical yearbook, last year saw a record number of arrests made. Substance abuse and battery were the highest offence reported. Similarly, in the last three years, a total of over 11,000 individuals were arrested.   

The police arrested 4,327 people last year. This is an increase of 742 individuals arrested compared to 2021.

Likewise, in 2020 the RBP arrested over 33,589 individuals.

Among those arrested, people in the age group of 25 to 31 years were arrested the most.

Thimphu district followed by Chhukha and Sarpang saw the maximum number of arrests made.

According to the statistical yearbook, the top five prevalent crimes in the country are battery, larceny, physical abuse, burglary, and substance abuse.
