The Country’s foreign reserves are in a comfortable position as of now according to the Finance Minister. Although he did not specify the amount, Lyonpo Namgay Tshering said that the country has enough foreign reserves to meet basic essential imports for at least 14 months. He added that the country should however not be complacent as revenue generation is limited. The Finance Minister said the government is currently exploring options to build the country’s reserves.

The constitution mandates the need to have a minimum foreign currency reserve to meet at least a year’s essential imports.
