A landslide has blocked the farm road between Wungborang and Nomey villages in Pema Gatshel during the monsoon. Although some blocks were cleared, the road between the upper part of Wungborang which connect the village with Nomey remains blocked even today. The residents are now requesting the Gewog to clear it before the onset of the rainy season.

Some portion of the road has been washed away while some parts are covered with debris.

Villagers of Nomey and the upper part of Wungborang have no option rather than carrying the goods on their backs.

“We used to plan house construction and other clearing works around this time of the year. But because of the block, we couldn’t carry out any of these works,” said Sonam Gyeltshen, a resident.

“The road has remained blocked for five months now. So, we are carrying construction materials on our backs, like in the past as vehicles cannot travel along the road,” said Cheten Zangmo, another resident.

They added they are hopeful that the Gewog will soon clear the blocks.

According to the gewog administration, due to an insufficient budget and lack of machinery, they could not clear the block on time.

“We are aware of the problems. We could not carry out the work on time due to a lack of budget and machinery. Along that road, bridge construction is ongoing and we will hire machines from there. We hope to clear it at the earliest,” said Tashi Dorji, Dungmin Mangmi.

This road was blocked more than five months ago.

There are ten households in upper Wungborang and Nomey village.
