For the first time, about a thousand teachers from Thimphu Thromdey schools met together at the YDF centre to mark Lopen Khamsang or Teacher’s Day Out. The programme was initiated to bring teachers together and celebrate their journey of teaching.

The Officiating Thromdey Education Officer, Ugyen Tshering, says the day is to celebrate courageous task the teachers have taken to educate the nation. “It is essentially to bring together these teachers in more relaxed setting and mode. We intend to just give them time to relax, reflect and perhaps even rejuvenate. We have come to a frightening conclusion that teachers principally remain so isolated within the classroom. So this programme may help us to celebrate this historic year in its true sense of term.”

Speaking to BBS, the Principal of Rinchen Higher Secondary School, Tshering Dorji said teachers have been given due honors today. “That’s the reason why Lopen Khamsang is one of the most profound events celebrated so far.”

Dr. Solomon Wang, a management advisor with Rinchen Higher Secondary School, said he truly believes that a teacher’s job is not just a job or a profession. “It is a calling to make an investment in the lives of our students for their future and a way to make that auspicious celebration known,” he said, referring to Lopen Khamsang.

The teachers also participated in various cultural programmes as part of the Sherig century.
