BPC suspends its director accused of sexual harassment

The Bhutan Power Corporation Limited suspended the director who was involved in the alleged sexual harassment case. According to the company’s Chief Executive Officer, the suspension order was issued yesterday and he is suspended until the case is resolved. However, the director will receive 50 per cent of his basic salary.

A committee comprising five members will investigate the alleged case. As per the regulations on working conditions 2012, the receipt of a victim’s written complaint shall be acknowledged within two days and an investigation into the complaint must start within five days.

The regulations states that the outcome of the investigation shall be communicated to the victim within 10 days from the commencement of the investigation.

As per the CEO, he asked the committee to expedite the investigation.

The incident allegedly took place in the early morning hours on September 15. The employee was on night duty in the company office along with another female colleague.

The employee filed sexual harassment report against the director five after days after the incident.  But the CEO claimed that he received it only a week later.
