BPC investigating alleged sexual harassment case

The Bhutan Power Corporation says they have begun investigations into the alleged sexual harassment case reported by one of their female employees. The company CEO said the investigation will be completed within five working days. The employee filed the report against her immediate boss on Monday, but the CEO said he received it only yesterday.

The incident allegedly took place in the early morning hours on Wednesday last week. The employee was on night duty in the company office along with another female colleague.

According to the complainant, the two of them were taking turns with one working while the other took rest. She claims that it was around 2 AM while she was asleep that she woke up to see her immediate boss standing in front of her. She alleges that he was drunk and he started groping her. She said she was able force her way to the toilet from where she called her supervisor.

The woman says many people including the suspect and his family members contacted her and requested not to report the case. But she says she decided to go ahead so that other female office goers will not have to face similar challenges in future.

Meanwhile, the CEO of the BPC says he received the formal written complaint only on Wednesday. He says both parties will be listened to and the matter will be dealt with as per the service rules.

BBS could not get in touch with the suspect.
