Four new bridges were inaugurated along the Wangdue-Tsirang highway on Friday. Two were constructed with fund from the Japanese government and the fund for the other two bridges was provided by the Government of India.

The Works and Human Settlement Minister Yeshey Zimba and the Resident Representative of JICA Bhutan Office, Tomoki Nitta, inaugurated the Burichu and Nyarachu bridges. The bridges were constructed at the cost of about Nu. 400 million.

Lyonpo Yeshey Zimba thanked the people of Japan for their assistance.

The Resident Representative said the two bridges were granted from the people of Japan as a token of friendship and co-operation between the two nations.

Lyonpo Yeshey Zimba also inaugurated the 30-meter Rurichu Bridge and 21-metre Mechi Bridge. The two bridges were built under the supervision of Department of Roads with fund from the Government of India. About Nu. 25 million was spent for the constructions.

Meanwhile, the 200 feet-long Samdingkha motor-able bridge in Punakha was inaugurated.  The bridge connects Chubu Gewog to the Dzongkhag.

Punakha Dzongda said with the completion of the bridge, Punakha Dzongkhag has achieved 100% Gewog connectivity.

Dzongda Kunzang N Tshering said the bridge will ease the transportation problems faced by the people in the Gewog. It is also expected to accelerate socio-economic development in the Gewog.

The bridge was constructed under the Small Development Projects, funded by the Government of India. Nu. 28 million ngultrum was spent for the construction.
