WHO team arrives in Wuhan, China

A World Health Organisation (WHO) team arrived in China’s central city of Wuhan yesterday to investigate the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to WHO, a group of 13 scientists representing different countries will interview people from research institutes, hospitals and the seafood market linked to the initial outbreak.

The team will undergo two weeks of quarantine before beginning their research. According to the international media, the investigation is aimed at reconstructing how exactly the pandemic unfolded and how to better prepare for emerging diseases in the future.

The Coronavirus was first detected in the city of Wuhan, China, in late 2019. The WHO declared a global pandemic on 11th March last year, after the outbreak spread quickly across the globe.

As per the latest data from the Johns Hopkins University in the US, the number of confirmed cases has crossed 90 M and claimed the lives of nearly 2 M people worldwide.

The World Health Organisation has warned that the virus will continue to spread rapidly in the coming months.
