Government of India releases Nu 1.19bn to the Royal Government of Bhutan

The Indian Embassy in Thimphu handed over a cheque of Nu 1.19bn for the Project Tied Assistance (PTA) to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, yesterday. The fund is part of the Government of India’s (GoI) assistance to the RGoB’s PTA projects under the 12th Five Year Plan.

The GoI committed Nu 28bn for the PTA projects to the RGoB under the 12th FYP.

According to a press release from the Foreign Ministry, the funds will be used for the implementation of five PTA projects of blacktopping of 20 GC roads, development of industrial parks in Jigmeling, reconstruction of Wangdue Phodrang Dzong, Government initiated network project plan and development of urban infrastructure development in Nganglam.

Since the launch of the first Five Year Plan in 1961, India supported Bhutan’s socio-economic development and it continues to be Bhutan’s most important development partner to this day.
