180 acres of potato fields damaged by frost

About 180 acres of potato fields were damaged by frost in Tang and Chummey Gewogs in Bumthang last Sunday.

The District Agriculture officials said since the potato cultivation season is over, there is no point giving potato seeds to the farmers to replace the damaged ones. Potato is the main cash crop for the farmers in Bumthang Dzongkhag.

Meanwhile, the district agriculture officials are assessing the extent of damage. Once the assessment is over, the report will be submitted to the Department of Agriculture.

    A similar thing happened at Phobjikha too.

    Why this natural damages is caused. Last year Shegnaps paddy fields were destroyed by hailstrorms at the verge of harvesting.

    Indeed, it is truly a Bad news!!! when domestic demand is very high and also Govt. desperately looking for ways to increase export to generate INR. What a timing??????.
