Gelegphug dungkhag office shifted to Umling

The Gelegphu dungkhag administration shifted to its new office in Umling Gewog recently, after almost six months of the building’s inauguration.

The office is located in Thongjazor village of Umling Gewog, which is 33 kilometres away from the present Dungkhag office near Gelegphu town.

With the office operational, people of Umling, Serzhong, Chhuzanggang and Taraythang Gewogs located across Mao River are happy that it will now be easier to avail themselves of public services.

“Earlier, we had to cross the Mao River to visit the dungkhag office. It used to be problematic. Now, what used to take us a whole day would be done in a matter of a few hours,” Thinley Wangchuk from Umling Gewog, said.

For now, people are concerned with bad road conditions from Doongmin to the dungkhag office at Thongjazor. There is also a need for a bridge in between over Langkhar River.

“There was a delay in releasing of funds since the new government had to take over. So far, we have received around Nu 1.2 M for the bridge construction. The fund for blacktopping the access road will also be released by June or July this year,” Ugyen Norbu, the Umling Gup, said.

The relocation of Gelephu dungkhag was approved during a Special Dzongkhag Tshogdu sitting in 2013. The new office was constructed at a cost of Nu 30 M on a five-acre land. The funds were provided by the government.
