Five boys arrested for robbery

Site of incident in Kharsadrapchu

Police in Thimphu arrested five boy students for their alleged involvement in a series of robberies on September 21.

The suspects, aged between 13 to 18 years, have extorted and stole cell phones, car keys and cash from the Khasadrapchu area in Thimphu.

Recently, the suspects robbed a car key along with Nu 4000 and a cell phone from a 42-year-old man.

According to the police, one of the suspects pelted the victim’s car with stone and when the victim tried to get out of the car, another four boys came and robbed him.

The man managed to escape from the scene and inform the police. The suspects were arrested on the same night.

Upon further investigation, the police found out the suspects were involved in three similar cases earlier. They had robbed cell phones and about Nu 13,000 from the victims.

The first case was reported to the police in May last year. However, even after several operations to trace out the culprits, they were not successful due to the area being vast.

Police say they had received four similar complaints from the same place. They believe some cases must be going unreported.

They urge the general public to avoid visiting secluded and isolated places, especially during odd hours.
