Hotels, resorts and spa centres to be trained in gSoba Rigpa spa and wellness services

The Faculty of Traditional Medicine will start offering training course in gSoba Rigpa Spa and Wellness Services by December. The three-month long training will target people in the spa businesses including private spa resorts, centres and hotels.

Some 30 proprietors of hotels, resorts and spa centres were sensitized on gSoba Rigpa Spa and Wellness Services in preparation for the start of the training.

“We want to sensitize on the scope of spa services, the procedures involved in the establishment of such centres, the rules and regulations and the standards,” Tandin Chogyel said.

Tandin Chogyel is the Officiating Chief Program Officer of the Department of Traditional Medicine Services, said.

The Bhutanese traditional medicine based spa and wellness services include herbal, steam and oil bath, and herbal compression and hot and cold compression among others.

“At the moment, spa and wellness services offered by the hotels in the country are not our own. It’s either Swedish or Thai massage. But today after attending this workshop, we’ve come to know we have our own therapy treatments,” Ugyen Dorji, a participant, said.

Bhutan is known for its abundance of rich medicinal herbs. The promotion of the ancient science of healing using these medicinal herbs is expected to help develop a health and wellness industry of our own and in branding Bhutan as a top wellness destination.
