Job seekers to be trained and employed in fashion and retail

Some 400 young job seekers will be trained and employed in fashion and retail stores in the Middle East countries during its first year. They will be trained at the Global Retail Academy here in the capital.

A daylong coordination meeting was held between Thai delegation and Bhutanese counterparts to discuss technical cooperation in drug treatment and rehabilitation services in Bhutan. The meeting was to explore partnership in drug prevention and treatment, especially rehabilitation practice. It includes capacity enhancement for staff, vocational skills program, research, and knowledge exchange.

Rajiv Pradhan, 25, won the first prize for his business idea, Aquaphonic System, in the Business Idea Competition, which was held at Thimphu TechPark, today. Aquaphonic system, according to Rajiv, is farming fish and vegetables in a shared space at the same time.

NA endorses national budget 2015-16

Despite fierce debate on the National Budget among members of the National Assembly, the house endorsed it with an absolute majority with only one member voting to abstain. The major focus of the discussion was on external debt management where the ruling and the opposition accused each other on managing public debt.

NEC to charge environment clearance fee

From July onwards, the National Environment Commission (NEC) will be now charging nominal fees for obtaining environment clearance. A fixed amount of Nu 500 will be charged per application.

Farmers fear dust pollution

As the cultivation season approaches, farmers in Lower Trongsa, residing along the highway, are worried about plumes of dust; the movement of heavy vehicles produces in the area. Farmers claim the Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project, for whom the load-vehicles ply, does not sprinkle water, on time, to settle the dust.
