The Zhemgang District Court has sentenced the 22-year-old warden of Zhemgang Central School to three months in prison for child battery. The judgment was passed today. However, the warden can pay Thrimthue or payment in lieu of imprisonment, or appeal to the High Court within 10 days.
According to the judgment, the warden was found guilty of beating a class eight student on 12th June. The verdict also stated that though the convict was supposed to compensate the victim in accordance with Section 39 of the Penal Code of Bhutan, the grandmother of the victim submitted to the court that the man had already paid them a compensation amount on mutual basis. Therefore, the man will not have to pay additional compensatory damage.
