Drukair has decided not to resume flight operations to in Trashigang until the Yongphula domestic airport is properly renovated . The airport, which was repaired recently, is still not suitable to operate flights according to Drukair.
The airport’s runway was thought to be uneven. The Drukair’s pilots, after the test flight on Thursday, said the unevenness of the runway was caused by haphazard blacktopping.
Unevenness of the runway may damage hydraulic pipe of the aircraft while landing, say the pilots. Hydraulic pipe is used to transport fuel and air to aero engines.
Drukair, after discovering pebbles and cracks on Yongphula airport runway, had suspended flight operations seven months ago.
Meanwhile, the Department of Civil Aviation has directed the contractor to fix-up the error.
