Residents of Tashichhoeling drungkhag in Samtse district can experience an improved and a good healthcare delivery soon. Works to construct the newly 20-bedded Tashichhoeling Hospital will begin by this month. The existing hospital caters to about 36,000 residents of five gewogs of Tashichhoeling drungkhag, Yoeseltse and Sangngagchogling Gewogs.
With time, the existing 10-bedded Tashichhoeling Hospital in Sibsoo has become old and run out of spaces for new services.
The hospital has not been able to install the newly received X-ray machine due to a shortage of space. Likewise, the hospital has been providing emergency services from a temporary emergency room set up just outside the main hospital building.
Besides the water shortage and limited toilets, the hospital currently is being managed by only one doctor.
“We receive a minimum of 100 patients every day here. And with only one doctor, it is very challenging. It is difficult to give timely services and most of the time, we have to extend our working hours and work till 6 PM,” said Dr Pema Gyeltshen, General Duty Medical Officer (GDMO) of the hospital.
However, the problems are expected to solve soon with the up-gradation of the hospital. Construction of the new 20 bedded hospital just below the existing hospital will begin by this month.
“The up-gradation of Tashichhoeling hospital will not only help us in providing good services but will also benefit the general public. The new 20 bedded hospital will also have a separate emergency department,” said the GDMO.
The Nu 500 M worth project is expected to complete in two and a half years.
