After the Monggar Regional Referral Hospital received a gynecologist recently, the work load of the lone gynecologist of Trashigang hospital is expected to reduce.

Untill now, Chojey Wangmo has been looking after patients in Monggar besides her normal duty in Trashigang.

She has been travelling to and fro from Trashigang to Monggar saving lives of many mothers and newborns. And she takes the patients along with her while travelling.

“We can detect any gynae related problem from here. But when the gynecologist is not here, we have to send the patients to Monggar. When they come back from Monggar after check up other necessary services are given from here,” said the Dy. Chief Dzongkhag Health Officer, Tshewang Dorji.

With increasing need of a gynecologist every year, health officials say, it is necessary for the hospital to always retain a gynecologist.

In absence of gynecologist, patients from nearby Dzongkhags such as Trashi Yangtse and Pema Gatshel are also referred to the 40 bedded Trashigang hospital.

Last year alone, the hospital received 860 patients requiring gynecology services.
