A windstorm, which lasted for about 30 minutes, blew off the roofings of 16 houses including a toilet and a temporary structure in five gewogs of Monggar yesterday. The incident occurred at around 3.20 in the evening. Thang-Rong Gewog reported the highest damages. Of the nine households affected, the roofings of five households were reported to be badly damaged while the roofings of four households were partially damaged.

In Chaling Gewog, the windstorm completely blew off the roofing of a temporary structure and a household. While the roofings of two houses were damaged by the windstorm in Drepoong Gewog, the roofing of a house was completely blown off in Kalapang_Risa chiwog under Saling Gewog. The windstorm also damaged the roofing of the chiwog temple’s toilet. And Shermuhoong Gewog reported the least damage caused by the windstorm with only a household affected.

However, no casualty has been reported. Gewog officials have visited the affected households today to assess the extent of damages and also provided disaster kits to the victims. This is the second incident of the windstorm reported in Monggar this year.

Meanwhile in Tashichhoeling Gewog of Samtse, the windstorm damaged over 250 fruiting areca nut plants across five chiwogs. Although people and livestock were unhurt, roofs of seven cow sheds were blown off by the heavy wind. Damages to banana plants and matured bamboo trees were also reported.
