Windstorm damages schools and houses

A windstorm has blown off roofs of two academic building and a temporary storeroom of Daksa primary school in Monggar yesterday.

The incident occurred at around 5 pm.

School authorities said the strong winds had also partially damaged the administrative block. However, there were no reports of casualties

Similarly, a windstorm damaged roofs of 10 houses in Pema Gatshel on February 26. While some were blown away, others suffered partial damages. The dzongkhag’s disaster management office provided the affected households with tarpaulin sheets.The insurance company completed carrying out its claim assessments as well.

In Paro, strong winds on February 25 and 26 caused damage to several homes and vehicles. 39 houses in seven gewogs have been affected.While some roofs of the houses were completely blown off, some were partially damaged.

Two vehicles parked outside the houses were also damaged by the roofs.

Meanwhile, the works to restore the roofing of houses and a school in Bumthang, which were damaged by a windstorm on February 25 have been completed.

All the structures had their roofing blown off partially. Most of them were insured. A total of eight houses and a school in Chhoekhor Gewog were affected by the windstorm.

The Bumthang Disaster Management Committee assessed the damages and submitted a report to the Department of Disaster Management.
