It has been over two decades since the people of Tashichhoeling gewog in Samtse have been cohabitating with the influx of elephants into their farmlands. Gradually, this trend has been coming in at a high price for the villagers.
Most villagers in the gewog depend on cash crops as their only source of income. But the wild Asian elephants have constantly damaged these sources of income like maize, paddy, and areca nut plantations. Our Samtse bureau correspondent, Sherub Dorji, brings us this special report.
