Trashi Yangtse will now have an advanced team for search and rescue in the event of any disaster in the district. The team will also include DeSuups. The District Disaster Management Committee conducted a week-long Search and Rescue refresher course for the police and DeSuups. The course ended yesterday.
A team comprising 15 police personnel and 10 DeSuups attended the course. They were able to upgrade their skills in river rescue, firefighting, and mountain rescue, which are crucial in times of disasters.
Trained DeSuups and police personnel facilitated the course.
“We could not conduct the course during the pandemic. So, we conducted it this time for a week for the DeSuups and the RBP, so that they remain ever-ready during disasters,” said Karma Thinley, Officer Commanding of Trashi Yangtse Police.
“Through this course, we get to practice what we learnt before, it boosts our confidence. In case any disaster strikes, we will be able to give our best,” said Tenzin Dorji, Assistant DeSuup Coordinator of Trashi Yangtse.
“Our main aim is to have a search and rescue team in the district that can act whenever the situation demands,” said the facilitator.
After attending the course, an independent search and rescue team in the district will remain ever ready to act whenever required.
