The Trashigang District Court conducted the first hearing for the Wamrong battery and trespassing appeal case, yesterday. The Dungkhag Court, in July, found Tshering Yangki guilty of both battery and trespassing charges. She has appealed to the District Court against the Dungkhag Court’s ruling.
The appellant stated five points which include denial of causing serious physical injury to the victim, use of a biased video clip as evidence, dismissal of witnesses’ statements, and dismissal of assault charges against the victim and her son.
The appellant was sentenced to a concurrent prison term of 18 months for battery and trespassing by the Dungkhag Court in July. She was also ordered to pay more than Nu 260,000 as compensation to the victim. The Court dropped the assault charges against the victim and her son.
The incident which happened on 26th April in Wamrong came into the limelight after a clip of the altercation went viral on social media.
