Vibrant media missing in South Asia- SAARC Information DirectorSAARC Information Centre’s Director, Laxmi Bilas Koirala says South Asian region does not have a vibrant media.

“We have to depend on international Media to know what is happening within the SAARC region,” said the director.

He said Media is the instrument to create pressure, to create idea, and to create concept for the people of the region. “So we have to provide some information to media to support it.”

He said there is a need for a credible and influential media within the region to promote the activities of SAARC.

To create a better understanding of the role of media in SAARC region, an interaction programme with editors, journalists and students was held in Thimphu.

A Professor of Mass Media and Communication from Nepal, Kundan Aryal said in order to create a common understanding of SAARC and its goals, there should be a free flow of information among the member countries.

South Asian News Agency has already been conceptualised for free flow of news and information among the SAARC members.

It could be the media outlet to voice the activities of SAARC in the international arena as well.
