The reluctance in trying new farming techniques among farmers in Semjong Gewog, Tsirang made it difficult for the local agriculture extension office to implement the use of mulching plastic in the Gewog.

The District Agriculture Sector in Tsirang has been encouraging farmers in the Dzongkhag to use mulching plastic to increase chilli production since 2018.

To promote the use of mulching plastic and to demonstrate the benefits, the Semjong Gewog Agriculture Extension Officer planted green chilli using mulching plastic, this year. This strategy seems to have finally got the attention of the farmers.
