Three Tshogpas elected during the local government elections have put up applications for resignation to the Election Commission of Bhutan. They are from Betso Doomchog Constituency in Haa, Tami Damchu Thang-Bjidemkhong in Punakha and Shompangkha Constiuency in Sarpang.
We could not get views from the Tshogpas. However, speaking to the Gups over the phone, BBS learnt that the Tshogpas put up the resignation letters on medical and domestic grounds.
Meanwhile, 25 Thromde Thuemis from four Class A Thromdes have earlier said they will resign if their pay is not increased.
According to a notification issued by the election commission last week, resignations will be accepted on medical grounds. The commission will also accept such applications if the person is convicted or has a pending case in the court of law for criminal offence. Resignation will also be accepted if found to hold an office of profit or if required to do so under the laws or in case of vacancy arising due to death.
