Trashi Yangtse District Court sentences a 34-year-old man to life imprisonment for vandalising a chorten

The Trashi Yangtse District Court, today, sentenced a 34-year-old man from Khamdang Gewog under Trashi Yangtse Dzongkhag to life imprisonment for vandalising a chorten.

The man is convicted of vandalising a Jangchub chorten in Chholabtsa village under Toedtsho Gewog on 5th December last year. He was arrested on December 8. However, the police have recovered all the relics. According to the Penal Code of Bhutan, chorten vandalism is an ‘Offence against Ku, Sung Thuk-Ten or Zung’ which is a First-degree felony with a prison term of 15 years to a maximum of life imprisonment.
