A three-year-old boy died after he was hit by a truck in Samdrup Jongkhar on Saturday evening. The accident occurred in the heart of the town in a busy market area.
The truck driver, in his statement to the police, said he came to know that the boy was in front of his truck only when he heard a man shouting to stop his vehicle.
The boy was immediately rushed to Samdrup Jongkhar hospital and later referred to Guwahati . But he died on the way even before reaching Kumarikata town which is about 14 kilometres from Samdrup Jongkhar town.
The hospital staff said the boy sustained injury on his head and back. The boy was accompanying his parents and had arrived in Samdrup Jongkhar that evening. They were on their way home in Gomdar.
The truck driver is in police custody for interrogation.
