Thousands of people braved the freezing cold weather to witness the first ever Druk Wangyel festival at Dochula in Thimphu today.
Instituted as a tribute to the three armed forces for their bravery and commitment to the people and the country, the festival is unique and different from any other festival in the country.
His Majesty the King, Her Majesty the Queen and His Majesty the fourth Druk Gyalpo also attended the festival.
The Tshechu displayed many unique folk and mask dances performed by dancers from the Royal Bhutan Army Band, the Royal Academy of Performing Arts, and the Central Monastic Body.
The highlights were the three episodes of the dances of heroes, Pawo Magla Joenpoi Cham, Pawoi Magcham and Pawo Yuelay Gyelwai Cham.
The festival will be an annual event from this year.
