In Thimphu alone, more than Nu.11.5 million was collected as a penalty from the traffic violators. Over 1000 people were fined for speeding, followed by learner licensed and unlicensed driving.
The superintendent, Major Passang Dorji, said despite increasing the penalty amount, traffic offenders is on the rise. As a strategy to bring down the number of accidents and traffic offenders, intensified checking and inspections are carried out within the city routes, expressway and highway.
From January this year till now, 510 accident cases have been reported in Thimphu.
