A coaster bus carrying twenty passengers toppled over on the road before reaching Metshina in Punakha yesterday. Twelve people including the driver escaped with minor injuries. The 7 AM bus was heading towards Gelegphu from Thimphu.
Five people including the driver were taken to Wangdue Hospital with minor injuries but discharged later. Among these patients, a 66-year-old woman was found to have sustained a fractured forearm. She was discharged after giving necessary treatment as per the doctor.
Likewise, seven passengers were referred to Punakha District Hospital with minor injuries and discharged towards the afternoon as per the doctor.
According to the driver, the bus was in normal speed but the brake failed while giving way to an oncoming vehicle. The bus owner, as per the information, has sent rest of the passengers in taxis bearing the fare.
However, BBS could not meet with concerned officials to confirm the cause of the accident.
