His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen have arrived in Thimphu yesterday after having concluded a Royal Tour of the eastern dzongkhags of Bhutan. Their Majesties were accompanied by Their Royal Highnesses Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel and Gyalsey Ugyen Wangchuck.

The Royal Tour from March 26 to April 13, covered Bumthang, Monggar, Pema Gatshel, Trashigang, Trashi Yangtse, and Lhuentse. This was His Royal Highness Gyalsey Ugyen Wangchuck’s first visit to the east.

To mark His Royal Highness’s first visit to the Dzong, Monggar Dzongkhag offered Ku Sung Thukten Mendrel. When Their Majesties were in Trashigang, the people there also offered Ku Sung Thukten Mendrel in honour of Their Royal Highnesses’ first visit to the dzongkhag.

Their Majesties visited Thegchog Ugyen Chholing Lhakhang in Dramitse on April 5, and the Namdroling Dratshang in Autsho, Lhuentse on April 6. In Namdroling, Their Majesties held an Audience with His Holiness the Je Khenpo.

Their Majesties visited the Desuung National Service Water Project at Kalapang, and the Gyalsung Site under development in Bongderma, while in Monggar.

During the visit, His Majesty The King granted Audiences to Dzongkhag COVID-19 Task teams in their respective dzongkhags. His Majesty also visited Gyalpozhing College of Information and Technology, Sherubtse College, and several schools of the east, and met with faculty and students.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, entire villages could not gather in one place to offer Tshogchang to welcome Their Majesties, as is the tradition in the east. However, the people waited by their homes and shops wherever Their Majesties travelled to welcome their King and Queen.

Their Majesties and Their Royal Highnesses were accompanied by Her Majesty Gyalyum Tshering Yangdoen Wangchuck, His Royal Highness Gyaltshab Jigme Dorji Wangchuck and Ashi Yeatso Lhamo.
