The iconic building, Gorchhim or the round building in Phuentshogling will be dismantled completely this month. Over ninety per cent of dismantling works is already over.

Six months before, the landmark structure in the town housed sixty-five tenants and twenty commercial tenants. Many families have fond memories with this fifty-year-old structure.

“Gol building is a famous structure and everyone knows about it. Now when it is being dismantled, we feel sad. But as saying goes, prevention is better than cure, it is important to replace it with another one, as it is very old.  We are thankful for the government’s timely action in dismantling it. We are now hopeful that government will build another landmark structure here” said Karma Tshering Dorji, a resident of Phuentshogling, Chhukha.

Considering the safety of the people residing here, the demolishing works started beginning this year. The top four stories were dismantled manually while machines are being used in the last two. The demolishing works are being carefully done. To ensure safety, scaffoldings are built and the site was fenced with CGI sheets. Until now, there weren’t any report of casualties. Locals are now expecting another landmark structure here.

National Housing Development Corporation Limited would build another landmark building in the same area. The construction will take off this year itself.
