Tagtse chiwog under Draagteng Gewog in Trongsa will have a Basic Health Unit (BHU) Grade-II by next year. The construction work is expected to start next week. But until it is complete, people have to travel to Kuenga Rabten BHU or Trongsa hospital which is almost 25 kilometres away, to avail health services.

The BHU will be constructed at Rala, about a kilometre above the Trongsa-Zhemgang highway. And the construction is expected to be complete by January next year.

Once it is complete, it will benefit around 170 households and about 2,500 students of Tagtse College of Language and Culture Studies, Tagtse Rigzhung Central School and Tashidingkha Primary School.

“We planned the construction for a couple of years back. But due to lack of proper designs and contractors unwilling to bid, the works got delayed. We had to tender out quite a number of times,” said Kuenzang Dorji, the Gup of Draagteng Gewog.

“We are happy that a hospital would be constructed nearby our village. Of course, we have one small here at the College but it is a clinic. We do not get all the medicines,” said Dorji Zangmo, a resident of Tagtse.

“For us at present, the hospital is at Kuenga Rabten and Trongsa. So, it is a problem for elderly people and those who cannot afford to travel by vehicles. Now, everybody is happy that a new hospital would be constructed within the periphery of our village,” said Chhimi, another resident.

The project is funded under the Small Development Project scheme.
