While many in quarantine count their days to meet their loved ones, six students volunteered to stay a few more days after their 21-day quarantine to contribute their services for receiving care and support from the quarantine facility in Gelegphu.

The students of Don Bosco College in Tura, Meghalaya, India returned to the country on 24th March. They were sent to a quarantine facility at Losel Gyatsho Academy, the same school they received a scholarship to continue their studies in India. The six girls were among the 23 people quarantined on 24th last month. They completed their quarantine on 15th of this month but decided to stay back to wash blankets and bedsheets used by the people in the quarantine.

Dechen Uden, a student of Don Bosco College in Meghalaya, India said that it’s quite challenging to serve the country especially when one is a teenager. The opportunity, according to her, is rare. “Right now is the opportunity and we are contributing our service to the nation,” she said.

“We could not contribute a huge amount to the government at times of need but we are giving our service by doing this work,” said Jamuna Bhandari, also a student of Don Bosco College in Meghalaya, India.

They went home today.

Meanwhile, from over 200 people quarantined so far, there are still 30 people in quarantine facilities in Sarpang Dzongkhag.
