Punakha District Court sentenced six men to life imprisonment for chorten vandalism, today. The men, between the ages of 21 to 31, were pronounced guilty of vandalising four chortens in Punakha in 2013-14.
Chorten and Lhakhang vandalism are offence against the Ku Sung Thukten or Zhung according to Penal Code of Bhutan. The penal code states, it is a felony of first degree which is punishable by life imprisonment.
