Around 280 grams of silver was seized by customs officials at the Paro International Airport, last Friday. The silver was being brought to the country by an Indian national hidden inside his luggage bag. The accused was travelling in Bhutan Airlines from Bangkok.
This is the first silver smuggling case after a series of gold smuggling cases earlier this year.
Meanwhile, customs official said a passenger can bring in a kilogram of silver and has to be declared. But it does not apply for those flying under tourist visa. The case has been forwarded to the police for further investigation.
