skwMore than 200 employees of SKW Tashi Metals and Alloys Private Limited have been paid sporadically even after the company had assured them their monthly salary.

The silicon manufacturing company in Pasakha under Phuentshogling is already on a five-month long ‘hiatus’ after it reportedly decided to break for maintenance. It has remained closed since July, this year with no certainty to start operation again.

A few employees BBS spoke to say the company failed them to pay full salary this time just like previous months. They received 20 percent of their salary, today.

“In October, we got 50 percent of our salary. We got the other 50 in November,” said one of the employees, Thukten. He said they got 80 percent of their November’s salary and the remaining was deposited only later.

Another employee, Nima said they are finding it difficult to pay their house rent without reliable salary. “We even landed up doing part time job in other companies.”

Some of the employees are ready to leave the company provided they are paid their retirement benefits. Many of them say the company’s uncertainty is making their future prospect look bleak.

The officials at the site did not want to comment on why the company decided to pause operation. Sources say the company’s two shareholders continue to negotiate the fate of the company and come to a common understanding.

The company’s shareholders did not want to comment.
