Passenger transports heading to and from Phuentsholing remained stranded today as road blocks were reported in more than twenty different locations on the Thimphu-Phuentsholing highway.
Likewise, buses, taxis and private vehicles heading to Phuentsholing from Thimphu were also not able to ply because of the block.
At some points, vehicles were not able to pass through as heavy downpour left the road in a muddy and slippery condition while, the other areas, it was landslides and boulders that made it impossible for the vehicles to ply through.
Road Safety and Transport Authority’s Base incharge in Takti said- there are blocks at about 20 different locations.
More than 50 vehicles also remained stranded since yesterday night.
At the RSTA parking in Phuentsholing public transports were kept on hold because of the road conditions.
Likewise, in Thimphu, hundreds of people and passengers buses heading to Phuentsholing remain stranded for the day.
RSTA says, it is unlikely that they will be able to clear all the blocks today. The advice is that people should travel only towards tomorrow afternoon- that too depending on the weather.
Meanwhile, heavy rains have also caused road blocks at several points in Sarpang, Tsirang and Dagana.
In Sarpang, a road culvert has been completely washed away at Toribari. The continuous rain also affected the restoration works. The road is likely to be open to traffic tomorrow if the weather improves.
In Tsirang, the Darachu-Tsirang and Tsirang-Sunkosh highway roads are blocked. The Damphu Lapsibotey road is also blocked.
The Executive Engineer of the Department of Roads in Sarpang said machineries have been deployed to clear the sites.
Meanwhile in Dagana, road blocks are reported at Gangteypani, Bhaleygang, Ninukha, Daldaley and Khagochen.
