NA-DzongkhaYenlagThromdeThe Dzongkhag Yenlag Thromdes or the Satellite towns shall now be under Gewog Administrations. This was decided at the National Assembly today while deliberating on the Local Government Amendment Bill 2014.

The National Assembly’s legislative committee proposed that the Dzongkhag Yenlag Thromdes be kept under the administration of Dzongkhag Thromdes.

However, majority of the members refuted the proposal. They cited that if the dzongkhag yenlag thromdes or satellite towns are to function under Dzongkhag Thromde, Yenlag Thromdes would be subjected to the same taxation rates as the Dzongkhag Thromdes.

The Members of the Parliament also pointed out that there could be chances of Dzongkhag Yenlag Thromdes being neglected in terms of financial assistance if it is to function under the Dzongkhag Thromde.

Some members also underlined that there would be confusion with regard to the roles and responsibilities of the Dzongdag and the Thrompon if satellite town should operate under the dzongkhag thromde.

After a prolonged deliberation, Tshogpoen Jigme Zangpo asked the members to resolve the issue through a vote.

Of the 44 members present in the house, 36 voted for Dzongkhag Yenlag Thromdes to be kept under Gewog Administration. Six voted for otherwise and two abstained from voting.

This led the house to decide to keep the Dzongkhag Yenlag Thromdes under gewog administration instead of Dzongkhag Thromdes.
