The pitch dark nights in the villages of Samrang Gewog under Samdrup Jongkhar is now a tale of yore now. Samrang Gewog is one of the eight gewogs to receive electricity recently.
Some 68 homes are lit-up in the villages in Samrang Gewog in Samdrup Jongkhar. Power supply arrived on August 16.
Within days of electrification, many families bought bulbs, fans and refrigerators.

Samrang Gup MB Gurung said the arrival of electricity brought a lot of excitement in the villages.
Besides villages under Samrang Gewog, power supply also benefits some villages under Phuentshogthang and Pemathang Gewogs.
Meanwhile, the officials from the Bhutan Power Corporation said electrification of Samrang Gewog was not in the five year investment plan. The gewog was electrified as the electricity project of Lauri and Serthig Gewogs passes through Samrang.
There are 11 gewogs under Samdrup Jongkhar dzongkhag.
