Samdrup Jongkhar Middle Secondary School will return to functioning as day school starting tomorrow. As a preventive measure to prevent the outbreak of COVID-19, the school resumed on October 5 in containment mode with students and teachers residing within the school campus.

Yesterday, 159 students and 40 teachers of the school went to their respective homes after staying almost 35 days on the school campus. When they return to school from tomorrow, they will have to have to follow the COVID-19 safety protocols.

According to Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongkhag COVID-19 Task Force, students have complained to their parents of the stress in studying under a self-contained mode. Similarly, the arrangement was inconvenient for breastfeeding teachers, while some teachers also expressed of domestic issues it created.

And since the risk of COVID-19 subsiding in the town and the challenges faced by teachers and students, the district COVID-19 Task Force wrote to the Eastern COVID-19 Task Force for the relaxation of self-containment mode of the school. It was approved on 6th November.

However, as per the letter from the National COVID-19 Task Force, the school will revert to the self-containment mode should there be any COVID-19 cases in the town.

Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongkhag has reported five COVID-19 positive cases with the last one detected on 17th September. Of it, three were from the community while two were detected in facility quarantine.
