The government’s plan to reduce 564 schools in the country to in between 140 to 150 was questioned in the question hour session of the National Assembly today.
“The plan of closing down remote schools in order to enhance the quality of education in the country has had most of the citizens worried,” said the Panbang MP, Dorji Wangdi.
Responding to the question, the Education Minister, Mingbo Dukpa, pointed out that all policies and plans are being made to provide a quality education.
The minister also mentioned that the main intention of the ministry is not to reduce the number of schools. He said clubbing the schools together would provide a better quality education throughout the country. “And the resource constraint would also be addressed.

“We have had lot of discussions and deliberations on this. The only solution we could find is to club the schools together. But, nothing is finalised right now,” added the minister.
Meanwhile Dramedtse-Ngatshang MP, Ugyen Wangdi also questioned the education minister about the government’s pledge to provide the education loans for class 12 passed out students.
The education minister said, now that the funds have been received the ministry is discussing on it. Soon the finance committee will decide whether the finance ministry or education ministry or Business Opportunity and Information Centre will lead the loan scheme.
According to the pledge made by the government, loan without any collateral will be provided to class XII passed students for continuing their education.
