A Royal Bhutan Army personnel was shot dead in an ambush on the Gelephu-Sarpang highway early this morning. The ambush took place at around 6:30 am.
Our reporter in Gelephu says, another personnel suffered minor injury on his right ring finger. The rest escaped unhurt.
The six army personnel were walking towards Dargathang outpost under Dekiling Gewog from the nearby army camp. The outpost is located 25 kilometres from Gelephu towards Sarpang.
Our reporter says 18 shells fired from an AK 47 rifle were recovered from the scene. A home-made gun or Khaduwa, a camouflage bag, a cap, small bag, torch light, rain coat and gun powder were also found.

Sources say, the United Revolutionary Front of Bhutan or URFB, a militant group based in Jhapa, Nepal is suspected to be, behind the attack. The deceased was from Thangrong in Monggar and is survived by wife and three children.
