The four eastern Dzongkhags, Trashigang, Monggar, Lhuentse and Trashiyangtse, have been hit with a power blackout for the third consecutive day today.

Bhutan Power Corporation (BPC) officials in Monggar said the failure of power conductor in between Zimthongmazor in Nangkor and Khangmapey in Urung in Pemagatshel is causing the blackout.

Around 40 power people are at the site trying to fix the problem. The Monggar BPC Transmission In-charge, Jigme Singye, said the task is daunting since there is no road access to the site. He said transporting equipment manually is also taking time. Another challenge is crossing swollen Denchi River on the way with heavy equipment.

BPC officials are hoping to restore power supply by tomorrow.

Our reporters in the east say the power outage has affected normal lives and services including banking.
