In the latest development of the suspected murder of a 24-year-old woman, the Thimphu police say they are nearing completion of their investigation. According to the police, the woman’s post-mortem report suggests that she was murdered as initially suspected. The case surfaced after the Thimphu police recovered a woman’s body from the Wangchhu near a bridge at Khariphu in Thimphu more than two weeks ago. Police suspect the woman’s boyfriend as the culprit in the case.
According to the police, the woman’s post-mortem report showed that she died due to fatal pressure on the neck. The police say that since it indicates a murder, they are interrogating the woman’s boyfriend as he is the prime suspect. No other suspects have been brought in for interrogation in connection with the case.
The police said that the boyfriend has confessed to strangling the deceased, although he denies committing murder. According to the police, the boyfriend claimed that the deceased jumped from a bridge near the fuel station after the strangulation following an argument between the couple.
The police say they have detained the 38-year-old boyfriend on suspicion before discovering the woman’s body. Upon investigation, police found out that he was the last person with whom the deceased had a conversation over the phone before she went missing.
According to the police, initial suspicion of foul play arose when the police retrieved the body. The police said they found the body of the woman half submerged in the Wangchhu a day after she went missing.
According to the police, they will charge the boyfriend for homicide and murder.
The investigation is expected to conclude next week. Subsequently, the case will then be handed over to the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) for prosecution.
