Having a farm road serves no purpose if it is not maintained. Likewise, the people of Wangling village under Langthil Gewog in Trongsa are not happy with their poor farm road construction. The residents say the seven-kilometre road which was constructed some six years ago is in need of maintenance. With the steep rocky slopes and poor condition, they say it poses risks to commuters and motorists.
Wangling village has 24 households. The residents say the condition of the road worsens especially in about two to three-kilometre stretch of the road.
“The road is so worse that it’s difficult for the vehicles to ply through including ambulance,” said Lhachum, a resident in Wangling.
“From Tongtophey, many vehicle owners are willing to at least come till the farm road. But from here, everyone refuses to go because of the worst road conditions. We would be grateful if the road is either maintained with wider curves or a new farm road is constructed,” said Sangayla, a resident in Wangling.
“So far, we have been carrying everything on our backs including patients and others. We are given the road facilities but it isn’t serving any purpose to us. So we would be grateful if the road could be maintained from the present condition,” said Sangay Dorji, a resident in Wangling.
Langthil Gup Sonam Dhendup said about Nu 2 M was spent for road restoration works since 2016.
“There is an issue in some three kilometres stretch. It’s even difficult for boleros to ply through. We feel that it’s necessary to widen the road and clear the drainage which we are aiming to carry out within this financial year,” he added.
The gup added poor topography, constant erosion during monsoon at the poor stretches led to the poor condition of the farm road.
