policeThe Royal Bhutan Police signed a Memorandum of Understanding with insurance companies which mandate a focal person to be at the scene of accidents. The insurance companies are Royal Insurance Corporation and Bhutan Insurance Limited.

The MoU, according to the police, is to combat false claims of insurance and bribery attempts. The police say people have attempted to bribe them to get Vehicle Accident Certificate to claim insurance.

Vehicle Accident Certificate is not issued if drivers cause accidents under the influence of alcohol.

The MoU also mandates the insurance companies to appoint focal person in all of their branch offices.

Insurance companies’ focal person will also have to sign the Vehicle Accident Certificate along with the police.
