The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, will arrive in the country for a two-day state visit, tomorrow. The visit is following the invitation of His Majesty The King. Prime Minister Modi will be accompanied by senior officials of the Government of India. This will be Prime Minister Modi’s third state visit to Bhutan since 2014.
Gearing up for the visit, streets and highways in the capital are seen adorned in vibrant colours.
According to a news release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Prime Minister Modi will receive audiences with His Majesty The King and His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.
The Indian Prime Minister will also meet his counterpart Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay.
The two prime ministers will jointly inaugurate the Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck Mother and Child Hospital in Thimphu.
Similarly, the two prime ministers will witness the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding for greater collaboration and cooperation in the areas of mutual interest.
The visit will allow the two countries to discuss bilateral and regional issues, and explore ways to enhance partnership for mutual benefit.
Bhutan and India share a unique and enduring partnership based on mutual trust, understanding and goodwill.
Meanwhile, the Royal Bhutan Police has notified that Norzin Lam, the main street in the capital, will remain closed from 6 PM tonight until the departure of the Indian Prime Minister.
Traffic disruptions are also expected in the core Thimphu Thromde roads during the two-day visit.
The RBP is also advising passengers having international flights to plan their travel from Thimphu to Paro either before 7 AM or after 11 AM, tomorrow and day after since the road will remain closed during the said hours.
Thimphu Thromde has announced that all schools under the Thromde will remain closed on Thursday and Friday.
